Rebirth of Ancient Peoples

What is ROAP?

What is this mod?

Rebirth of Ancient Peoples (ROAP, old code name TFT10rp) is a mod for Warcraft 3 that adds 6 new races to melee maps.
This is a simple mod with a lot of adds (more than 440 units, 570 abilities, 180 magical effects, 30 items, 110 upgrades...). This is mainly a data base of new units and abilities, with however some new models and icons. This mod can be added to all melee-type maps.
This project was started during Reign of Chaos (with Tauren, Ambushor and Dwarf races). Then Nerubian, Naga and Skeleton races were created after The Frozen Throne has been released. Since 2009, after a period of inactivity, I have been improving units balancing, adding some new units and concepts, new models and icons.
Definitive version: 2.10.

Which races?

  • Dwarves: brutish warriors, war machines and no sorcerers. Derived from the Alliance, this race combines high damage and vitality, but is weak against magic.
  • Taurens: strong warriors and mystical units. Derived from the Horde, this race has vitality and powerful magics but produces slowly its army.
  • Skeletons: lots of summoned skeletons to surround enemies. Derived from the Undeads, this race is a bit particular, with its mercenaries units that summon skeletons.
  • Ambushors: tactical, furtive and fast units. Derived from the Elves and the Humans, this race is weak in direct assaults, but can use traps, diversions and ranged attacks to win battles.
  • Nerubians: strong and slow magical units. Derived from the classic Nerubian creeps, this race combines lots of magics and a great vitality, but produces slowly its army and is weak against brutish battles.
  • Nagas: powerful and mystical units. Derived from the classic Naga race, this race is powerful in direct assaults, defense, magics... but is expensive and needs time to be strong.

How to choose the races?

There are two ways to choose the races.
At the main menu : you have to choose an old race and the percentage of handicap.

  • Human and 90% handicap --> Dwarven race
  • Orc and 90% handicap --> Tauren race
  • Undead and 90% handicap --> Skeleton race
  • Night Elf and 90% handicap --> Ambushor race
  • any race and 80% race --> Nerubian race
  • any race and 70% handicap --> Naga race
  • any race and 60% handicap --> Random between all new races
  • any race and 50% handicap -->Random between all races (old and new ones)

The handicap will return to 100% at the beginning of the game.

If no new race is choosed, at the beginning of the game, a screen will allow you to choose between these options:

  • "Cancel" --> you keep the old race you have choosed before launching the game
  • "random new races" --> random choice between all new races
  • "random all races" --> random choice between all races (old and new ones)
  • "Dwarf" --> Dwarven race
  • "Tauren" --> Tauren race
  • "Ambuhor" --> Ambushor race
  • "Nerubian" --> Nerubian race
  • "Naga" --> Naga race
  • "Skeleton" --> Skeleton race

If a new race has already been choosed with the first way, this screen does not appear.

What else?

This mod contains some other adds:

  • New mercenary heroes at the Tavern: The Tavern has two extensions: the Tavern Tower and the Tavern Inn, with 12 new mercenary heroes each. There is also in certain maps a Vampire Spire with its Vampire Hero.
  • New neutral buildings: Mercenary Camp, with 11 powerful mercenaries to hire; Outlow Peddler, a new item shop; Goblin Shipyard, with 3 new powerful battleships...
  • Ships: The old races and the new ones all have a specific paysant that can build shipyards. All races have 4 or 5 floating units for epic naval battles.
  • Two hidden races: the Giant race, with extremely expensive and powerful units, and the Heroes race, which allows you to build only 3 of all heroes available in the game.
  • New creeps: certain maps have new neutral hostile units, and occasionally powerful bosses, like legendary dragons, liches, demons...

How many maps?

For the moment, more than 35 maps have the ROAP mod. Adding the mod to a new map needs some consequent time (import new icons, data, triggers, change gameplay constants). Some classic melee maps will be upgraded soon to the ROAP mod.

What can we expect in the future?

It depends on my motivation and the World Editor capacities. For now, I cannot add more Heroes (the Hero list in the Editor is full). I think the mod is now full enough. I will adjust races balancing and maybe add some new maps and creeps. I will also create more "Special Guest" maps (maps with the new races as creeps) or scripted map, if I have time.
